Stories
A Walk in the Woods By Stephanie Sykora
Fritz By Alex Sykora
Becoming Me By Kaltrina Kusari I am 17 years old and I come from Kosovo. I have a wonderful family that has truly shaped my life. As the story tells, I experienced the war and during that time I really understood how strong humans can be. War made me appreciate my country even more and since then I have been trying to get a better education so I can help my country. Right now I am attending Quest University Canada- a university that that is providing me with the education that I am looking for. I wrote this story because I wanted to show people that challenges make us stronger and if we have the will we can reach our goals. Furthermore, I finally had the chance to put pictures to my thoughts. I wanted to thank my family and friends for helping me become who I am today. I thought that this was the best way I could thank them.
A Sense of Place By Shandel Brown
I'm originally from Red Deer Alberta, but have moved to Squamish to go to school at Quest University. My focus at Quest is Environmental Anthropology and the relationship between culture and a person's perception of their environment. Most of the things I like to do involve being outside, which partially inspired my digital story. Smell has always been a sense that I tie very strongly to memory, and the smell of the ocean has always been a favorite. Living in Squamish and working on this project have allowed me to further explore that side of myself that thrives in the outdoors.
Letting Go By Alana Bliss My name is Alana Bliss and though I’m originally from Burlington, Ontario, I made my way to Squamish in August of 2007. To be honest, I hadn’t heard of this place before I decided to join the inaugural class of Quest University—to which I was told it’s a pit-stop-town on the way up to Whistler and that if I lived there, I would become a hippy. After living in Squamish for about a year and a half I’ve come to realize this place is so much more than a pit-stop-town and that I’m so much more than a “hippy”. I find it no co-incidence that these two phenomena have influenced each other. I hope my digital story lets people know that, to me, Squamish is a door that opens to a room full of beautiful people, venturesome opportunities, a deep sense of nature and most importantly—character.
